Pollution
Jakarta’s water quality is not very good. It scores 18.29% out of 100. The pollution index for Jakarta is 80.51% out of 100. This is very good for a large city that houses over 20 million people. Jakarta’s Air Pollution is 71.02% out of 100. This is not that great but isn't as bad as China or other surrounding countries.

Slums
Jakarta suffers from a large amount of slums. 26% of Jakarta’s population live in slums. Some results were released in 2009 showing that 32% of Jakarta’s homes have a living space of less than seven square metres. Also many of Jakarta’s slums are illegal; the residents of these slums are squatting and making government land their home. But this is going to change. Jakarta’s government has produced a plan that they will demolish all slums, but put the residents in new high-rise apartments with running water and electricity. The Indonesian word for slums is kampungs. Most of the slums are located at older rural areas that have been over populated.

Water and Sanitation
The water quality in Jakarta is horrendous. Unless you live in a house that has access to the government water it is recommended to boil your water before drinking or drink bottled water. Most households in Jakarta use well water but as stated above if you live in a good area of Jakarta you will receive good quality water.
